Have you ever thought that your body was just not capable of something?

I have been doing Buddhi for so many years that it’s sometimes hard to remember how I felt at the beginning. Still, I can remember thinking that my body just wasn’t meant to move the same way as the instructor’s. That rhythm and dance just weren’t in my toolbox, and that I was destined to be the stiff girl in the back row forever.

It took two things to change that.

1 - Practice (and patience) - I needed to have patience with myself as my body took time to learn the movements. Buddhi movements are new, and it takes a while for your brain to make the connection. Dedication and consistent practice provided the space needed to master the movements.

2 - Training - learning the proper technique and pursuing more training changed my practice. I could have been practicing forever but, without the extra knowledge I gained through my trainings, I would have been practicing incorrectly and missing key steps. This could have lead anywhere from never mastering the movements to physical injury.

Come to one of my classes today and you would never believe it now that I once struggled to keep up in the back row. I promise, if it’s what you want, you can achieve it, with focus and attention, just like I did.

The 3 big twerk mistakes in Buddhi

We’ve all been there. We finally work up the courage to try a Buddhi practice, are feeling good after a few songs, and then - the twerk. Suddenly our body feels stiff and rigid, and we feel embarrassed about how our body is (or isn’t) moving in the group of women who are obviously all watching us 😉. We give it a few beats of trying but quickly stop as we feel self-conscious about continuing to try.

It doesn’t have to be this way! I promise you that each person is capable of mastering this movement and owning the confidence and strength that comes with it. First, it takes getting over the 3 most common mistakes every new practitioner makes:

🤪 Feeling silly - I can promise you that every single person who has attempted to twerk has felt silly the first time they did so. The only way to get over it? Practice, practice, practice. All the better if you’re in a group of supportive practitioners holding a safe space.

🦵🏽 Twerking incorrectly - without the proper technique you may be putting unnecessary strain on your back and knees ! Learn the safe way to twerk early on to ensure a long-term practice.

🍑 Thinking the twerk is only sexual - sure, this movement probably makes your mind go *there*, but there are tons of other reasons why we incorporate this movement into a Buddhi class! This movement has proven physical and mental benefits, as well as emotional and energetic benefits reaching far beyond what you would ever expect of a simple hip motion. The more you understand why we use the movement, the less self-conscious you will feel about it.

How many of you have ever doubted your own confidence ? 🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️

I want you to know that you are absolutely not alone, and that I used to be this way too.

I’m sure you know by now what helped me - that’s right, Buddhi Yoga! And actually, more specifically, the twerk that we use during a Buddhi class.

It may sound unbelievable that a hip movement can have this type of effect, but there are real reasons why we incorporate this hip movement into our practice - and why practitioners report feeling more confident in themselves even after only one session.

Still, this movement can be intimidating or difficult to master. There are also many stereotypes that exist that sometimes stand in our way when trying to adopt the movement.

I created this workshop to address all of these concerns - and to have the time we need to delve deep into this aspect of the Buddhi practice.

During this workshop we will discuss:

- how to twerk safely
- the proper alignment of asanas that we typically add twerk to in a Buddhi practice
- the reasons we add twerk to a Buddhi practice
- the stereotypes surrounding twerk

as well as taking part in community connection activities and a full Buddhi practice.

There are two opportunities for you to attend:

2. In-Person in Malta: Sunday May 14, from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

LA COMUNIDAD 🌎

What an absolutely amazing time we had shaking it in Bogotá! My body may be tired by my heart is overflowing. I feel so honored to have met so many amazing people over the course of the Buddhi classes here. So much strength, so much love, and above all, so much community.

It only proves how (Buddhi) yoga crosses oceans, cultures, and languages to connect and unite us all as one.

Muchas muchas gracias to all of the studios who opened their spaces for this experience and most of all to all of the students who were brave enough to take a leap out of their comfort zone and try a new and challenging practice.

It was absolutely my honor to offer the practice to you and to connect with you. We will definitely be back 😉🍑

Stop letting your insecurities get the best of you

What do you do when you are feeling less than your confident self? When external conditions cause doubts and insecurities to creep in?

We all feel this way sometimes, and instead of wallowing in these emotions and having them become a self-feeding cycle, it’s important to have systems and routines in place to snap you out of it and put you back on track.

These tips are some of the things I do when I’m feeling a bit down on myself. The goal isn’t to avoid these feelings altogether - it’s to see how quickly you can come back to your true power and remember who you are.

For me, #1 is the absolute most important. We unconsciously store so many emotions in our bodies, and shaking them out can help to reset our minds when we need it most. No matter how down I’m feeling, when I practice Buddhi, it never takes more than 1 song to get me smiling again.
